From Certificate programmes in fashion design to basic computing skills, add- on courses seem to be the latest USP being flaunted by colleges in Delhi University. And why not?
While students flip through the prospectus to decide which add - on course would fit them, colleges are laughing all the way to the bank.
According to sources, the moolah starts flowing in the moment a college ties up with a private institute .Said a senior teacher at an elite South Campus college.” the usual arrangement is that the college provides the students while the institute pays for any infrastructure that the college provides. It also gives a “portion” of the fees earned to the college.” The “portion” of the fee would depend on the college as well as the institutes reputation and could range between 35 and 45%.
With most colleges offering two to three such courses withan intake capacity of 30 - 40 students, the figures are, to say the least , quite substantive. What makes it an attractive proposition is that the input from the college is minuscule. All that most do is either distribute the forms for these courses with their prospectus or allow them to set up a counter in the premises during admission time
