The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) announced its Class 12 results on Monday, with 77.8 per cent of students passing the make or break examinations.
A total of 420,240 students appeared for the school leaving examinations that were held in India and 19 foreign countries in March-April.
While there was an increase of 1.8 percent in the number of students who passed, girls, at 83.17 percent, as usual fared better than boys, at 73.78 percent.
Chennai topped among the six CBSE zones, with a pass percentage of 90. Ajmer came in second, Chandigarh third, Delhi fourth, Guwahati fifth and Allahabad last.
A total of 6,141 students appeared from 115 schools in foreign countries like the Gulf nations, Russia, Nepal, Tanzania and Iran. The pass percentage abroad was 91.27 percent.
In the Gulf region alone, where 5,446 students from 51 schools appeared for the CBSE schools, 92.69 percent of students passed, with boys at 90.42 percent and girls at 94.85 percent.
