Girls Again Outshine Boys In CBSE Class XII Results

Filed under:

Setting new standards of success, over 3,300 students scored over 90 per cent marks in the CBSE Class 12 board examinations the results of which were declared today.

Girls outshone boys once again in the crucial examination held in March, which was cleared by 77.80 per cent of the 4,20,240 registered candidates. The pass percentage was the highest - 90 per cent in the Chennai region comprising the southern states, Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) chairman Ashok Ganguly said announcing the results at a press conference here.

The results were posted on CBSEs websites www.Results.Nic.In, www.Cbseresults.Nic.In and www.Cbse.Nic.In at eight am today, ending the anxious wait of students.

Cyber cafes made good business as they were besieged by students but a large number of them referred to check their results via SMS and through interactive voice response system (IVRS) on telephone also.

Ganguly said 3,376 students scored more than 90 per cent this year, up from 2,826 in 2004, and the most ever for the board. In Delhi itself, 1,178 students cross the 90 per cent mark, a significant increase from 779 last year. However, CBSE did not name the topper as a matter of policy, saying it did not want to leave scope for human error. Among groups of schools, the best performance (93.14 per cent) was by the nine institutions of the Central Tibetan schools. This was followed by the Kendriya Vidyalayas (92.47 per cent), Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (87.08 per cent) and private schools (80.46 per cent).

In Delhi, the success rate of private schools was quite high at 89.46 per cent.

Ganguly said the 4,20,240 registered students represented a 6.8 per cent increase in the number of students from last year. They were from 4,225 schools and took the test at 2,175 centres.

There was a 1.8 per cent in the overall pass percentage of 77.8 this year as compared to 2004.

The pass percentage of girls at 83.17 per cent was significantly more than that of boys at 73.78 per cent. Last year, this was 82.28 and 71.29 per cent respectively.

In Delhi, there were 1,75,972 candidates and the pass percentage was 77.61, up about two per cent from last year. Among girls, the success rate was 82.99 per cent while among boys this was 72.55.

The pass percentage of regular candidates was 80.99 per cent as compared to 37.41 for private and correspondence students. Ganguly said 11.88 per cent (48,008) of the total students got compartmentals while this was 12.38 per cent for Delhi.

After Chennai region, the most successful was Ajmer, followed by Chandigarh, Delhi, Allahabad and Guwahati. Delhi was the third most successful region last year.

Ganguly said 6,141 students from 59 schools had appeared for the Class 12 examination in foreign countries, 5,446 of them from 51 schools in the Gulf.

The pass percentage for all the schools was 91.27 while it was 92.69 per cent for the Gulf schools. Some institutions in Russia, Nepal, Tanzania and Iran also follow the CBSE.
