CBSE Lists Steps To Make Learning Process Meaningful

Filed under:

The Central Board of Secondary Education has come up with a series of recommendations to make the learning process meaningful and enjoyable.

The Board is now examining the possibility of providing additional time before the start of public examinations and the feasibility of introducing different levels of question paper to cater for various levels of aptitude.

It is also looking into providing greater flexibility while selecting subjects at the secondary and senior school levels. Designing of questions that will examine the creative thinking and ability of application of students is another area.

The Board is also toying with the idea of permitting use of calculators at the senior school level, introducing grading system, eliminating pass-fail system and possibilities of subject-wise certification.

Already, the CBSE has advised schools to keep textbooks in the school so that students need not have to carry their bags around and instructed institutions to stop giving homework to Class I and II students.

Now the Board has invited suggestions from all stakeholders, including principals, teachers, students, parents and public regarding the new initiatives. Suggestions can be sent to Public Relations Officer, CBSE, 2, Community Centre, Shiksha Centre, New Delhi, or e-mail them to directoracad@hotmail.com.
