Shop For College Seats From Home

Filed under:

The latest product available on the home shopping network is a seat in a popular junior college. There is no need for you to run around the city, hopping from one college to another, trying to find the best college for your child. The colleges will come to your doorstep marketing their seats and performance over the years in the Intermediate public examinations and Eamcet.

Knocking on doors are lecturers from different junior colleges giving reasons on why their college is the best for your child and how it will make him or her an Eamcet topper.

Until last year, the public relation officers of the college used to go to each prospective student`s house. But this time, the college management decided that to make the visit more authentic and appealing to the parents and students, lecturers should personally meet them and market the seats, said a chemistry lecturer of a junior College at Narayanaguda.

The colleges get addresses of students from schools with whom they have an understanding. The lecturer goes about meeting students, checking addresses and phone numbers of students acquired from different schools. They get Rs 120 every day towards their travel expenses. For every successful admission into MPC stream, they earn Rs 100 and for every student they admit in BPC, they get Rs 200.

The job of marketing their college starts long before the end of an academic year. The junior colleges have an understanding with several schools to let their lecturers take a few classes for their class X students, a few months before the final exams.

These lecturers go and teach the students simple methods to solve mathematics and physics problems. When we give them tips and easy problem-solving techniques, the students are impressed and remember us when it`s time for their admission in Intermediate, a lecturer said.

The school which facilitates this will get a commission of around Rs 20,000 depending on the strength of their class X and the colleges are more or less guaranteed students, even before the board examinations are held.

Already in many colleges, the enrolment has touched 2,000 students.
