Workshop On Peace And Education

Filed under:

A two days workshop on peace and education was inaugurated today at the State Guest House organised by the Centre for Peace Education Manipur and State Council of Educational Research and Training.

Speaking at the occasion, education minister Francis Ngajokpa stated that peace will prevail in Manipur only if the first step is taken in every home of the state. Without peace in our homes, we cannot expect peace in the society, he said.

The minister also said that it has become difficult for the government to keep a vigil on the innumerable organisations and their activities.

It is therefore important that the organisations work for the welfare of the society, sorting out any differences in non violent ways towards ushering peace, he said.

Many womenfolk and NGOs have been demanding peace and surprisingly the demands for the peace has turned violent and one wonders what are the responsibilities and activities to be taken up for ushering peace, Francis Ngajokpa mused.

The minister also stated that the academic atmosphere should not be disturbed at all cost and students should strife for non-interference in their education through peaceful means.

Gopen Moses, Northeast India representative for Catholic Relief Services, Guwahati, stated that all problems of the society should be tackled unitedly with sincere contributions from each individual. The youths of the state should be encouraged to take up peaceful means in finding solutions, he said.

Finding solutions to social stigmas including prevention of the dreaded HIV/AIDS will also help in bringing peace to the Manipuri society, Gopen Moses said.

The occasion was also attended by Dempu Pheiga, manager World Vision, Prof. Ksh Bimola, president CFPEM and N Debala, director, SCERT
