AICTE Approves 54 New Engg. Colleges

In a new development in the field of Education, the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has approved for 54 more engineering/technology institutions with a total sanctioned intake of 12, 000 students for the academic year 2005-06, the Rajya Sabha was informed on Monday.

Till now, there were 1, 360 engineering and technology institutions approved by the AICTE with an approved intake of 4, 45, 183 students, Minister of State for Human Resource Development MAA Fatmi said in a written reply.

According to the Minister, 50 more Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) will be opened depending upon the availability of resources. The KVs will also have to fulfill the stipulated criteria.

Fatmi also informed the House that a Central Advisory Board of Education (CABE) committee on textbook regulation had studied the textbooks in Kerala and 11 other states.

The committee had observed that the books excluded the regional history, teaching of which was important for the students.
