If not IIT aspire for a CBSE seat

Filed under:

It can be an alternate to appear for CBSE exam than IIT. The criteria made by the HRD ministry that minimum 60 percent result need in class XII to seat in an IIT test. So it is a good news for the below 60 percent scored students who can appear the CBSE conducts Pre-Medical/ Dental Tests (PMT) and ALL-India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE).

CBSE is not going to implement any stringent policy in near future like what IIT has implemented. A qualified student of XII from any of the State Board of Secondary Education could appear in the CBSE test.

Before implementing any strict eligibility criteria for sitting in the entrance examinations, the board has to think about the future of the vast number of students who only sit for the CBSE-conducted entrance examinations. Moreover, we have to think of those aspirants who pass out of such State examination boards which are famous for unfair marking, a CBSE official, requesting anonymity, said.

To attract deserving candidates, changes were being made in recent years by the CBSE board like implementing two-tier examination in pre-medical tests in 2004 and also by including objective type questions in the engineering entrance examinations in 2002, but it`s too early for the board to make any further changes. Changes were introduced after in-depth analysis of the quality of students who sit for these entrance examinations. Quality analysis is again in process but we are not prepared to make any further changes in such a short span of time, the official added.

If the CBSE does not at all toe the line of IITs in the future too, it will be a big relief for the students who take State board examinations. Unlike the CBSE, it is difficult to secure 60 per cent marks in Class XII examination of the State boards. In CBSE examination, a student gets even 95 per cent marks in English or Humanities, which is not possible in the State examinations at all. Such students will unnecessarily suffer from IITs` recent decision. At the same time, marks cannot be a criterion to test one`s merit. Competition means competition. It should be open for all, a member of CBSE board said
