» News > Education > Playschools are going to be an Integral School
The contemporary education system is far away from its basic mission. Now a day the education system has been used in a complete commercialised way. Rare schools are there in our country, which are providing a complete education in their schools to all the students.
It may not quite be the interview for the civil services but at ages two-and-half and three, the city`s toddlers are busy being `prepared` for nursery interviews by a thriving playschool industry.
Playschool these days, is anything but that. The tutoring is detailed. The child and parents must say the right things and make the right noises.
Your questionnaire-filling skills need to be at the sharpest and, of course, your child must look spontaneous and confident.
Schools can be so demanding in these interviews. They want these kids to know numbers, colours, solve puzzles, things that ordinarily an average three-year-old cannot be expected to know, says Sonia Kullar who runs a pre-school in south Delhi.
So while it may not have been too long that they were out of their diapers, guess what most of these kids are busy doing these days?
Attending mock interviews! A series of mock interviews are based on a fixed curriculum. Priyanka Jhunjunwala, who runs a playschool in GK-II, says: We prepare worksheets which have exercises on pairing, join-the-dots, opposites and so on.
She further points out that, We also hone the gross motor skills of kids through activities like running, climbing and games like catch.
To add that touch of authenticity, playschools also ensure that the interviews have conducted by unfamiliar faces in unfamiliar surroundings. All this of course, comes with a heavy price tag.
Most of these playschools charge anything between Rs 2,400 to Rs 5,000 a month, and this figure works out to be even steeper when one adds up the number of months that the coaching lasts.
Many parents enroll their children for at least 10 months or more. As spontaneity and confidence are the qualities much valued by schools, theatre workshops also come in handy.
