A decision has been made by the Joint Admission Board (JAB) Meeting held on September 17,2005 at Kolkata to change the existing pattern and eligibility criteria of IIT-JEE.
Till last year the prestigious JEE was conducted in two steps, Screening and Mains.
Screening test was based on objective pattern and the Main Exam on subjective pattern. As per the new guidelines there is going to be only one paper unlike the previous years. Three papers of two hours duration each in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (purely of objective type) will be conducted.
Just a pass in XII class was the eligibility to take up the IIT-JEE till last year, which is also changed this year. Minimum of 60% marks are (55% for SC/ST and PD) mandatory to seek admission in IITs from this year onwards.
Further the new decision by JAB allows candidates to appear in JEE only twice in their academic career.
With the new rules coming into place, students would not require separate preparation, as their board examination preparation will take care of preparation of IIT-JEE as well.
