The Indira Gandhi National Open University, held an induction meeting at Special Study Centre, 2210-D, Everest Public Senior Secondary School, Moti Nagar.
Dr K.D Parsad, Assistant Regional Director, Regional Centre, Khanna presided over the function. Prof Harlal Singh, former director of the school education board was the guest of honour.
Dr Parsad gave detailed information about the policies and programmes of IGNOU and said that at present 13 lakh students are receiving education through 30 IGNOU centres worldwide.
He said that only 10 per cent of those qualifying from different boards are able to pursue their studies in the colleges. Many students, for one or the other reason, are unable to continue their studies and their need is fulfilled by IGNOU.
Prof Harlal Singh said that in the pursuit of its programmes and policies, IGNOU also fulfills the dreams of the framers of the Constitution of India.
Prof Harlal Singh praised the achievements of the IGNOU special study centre 2210-D. Asha Sharma, Coordinator, IGNOU Special Study Centre, 2210-D dwelt on various subjects taken by the new comers and advised them to study sincerely.
Rajinder Sharma, president, Association of the Punjab School Education Affiliated Schools, Punjab (regd.) advised the students to fully devote themselves to their studies and be vigilant and ready to grasp new opportunities. He said, Education is teaching to think. He thanked all guests, dignitaries and the mediapersons.
