12,000 Engineering seats not filled

The controversies and crisis during the Tamil Nadu Professional Courses Entrance Examinations (TNPCEE) held in April every year never seems to end . Nearly 12000 government quota seats in private self-financing engineering colleges have not been filled, leave alone the management quota in many of the 240 colleges.

The immediate problem of the managements appears to be that of filling the seats, at least to the extent of making these colleges economically viable.

And the deadline may be drawing near for the Government to spell out its admission policy for 2006.

The Supreme court has directed States to come out with their policy at least six months in advance before the common entrance test in order to protect the interest of the students aspiring a higher education
