By realizing the potential of Indian tourism and power of a tourist guide the Union Tourism Ministry has announced a new exam for the tourist guide. After clearing the exam they will be allowed for their job. The new exam will be mandatory for all government approved tourist guide before taking on assignments.
The department said the minimum educational qualification of a candidate is bachelor degree or a diploma in archeology from the Institute of Archaeology, under the Archeological Survey of India, with proficiency in English. The exam pattern will be short type of question from various fields like history, geography of India, geology, current knowledge, knowledge of monuments, different cuisines and handicrafts. After the exam, the successful candidates are gone through an interview. Then they are made through an intensive training session of 16 weeks. After that the successful candidates will be able to get identity cards.
For the licensed guide the department said, they will now be required to undergo a refresher course every year and take an exam. Where they should secure minimum 40% marks, by which the government will renew their license.
