The technical fiesta of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras, `Shaastra` was inaugurated on October 5 amidst scores of IITians and other participants taking part in the inaugural. The annual technical fest will continue till the October 9. Over 900 students from close to 125 colleges outside Chennai have registered themselves to participate in `Shaastra.` These are besides students of Chennai colleges who will also be taking part in the event.
The total prize money for the various events of `Shaastra 2005` sums up to Rs.4, 25,000. Winners of the event Industry Defined Problems,` would also get to do internships with companies such as SAP, GE and Google. As part of the celebrations this year, models of single-seater hovercraft and a Bascule Bridge will be on display. The Bascule Bridge would open up and let ships pass through at short notice. `Shaastra` is the only student-organised event in the world to be ISO 9001 certified. The festival is being organised by 12 core members and 600 volunteers
