If you have a son, more than two daughters, more than two kids or a son and a daughter, then be prepared for higher school fees as the government has reconsidered its decision of reimbursing schools the costs of providing free education to the single girl child and 50%rebate for the two girl child families.
All private schools affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education will have to implement this programme from the current financial year, though the logistics may push the implementation to the next year.
A senior HRD official said that neither the govt. nor the CBSE would reimburse the school as there would be an average of five to ten cases in every case in every school. So the amount is not huge sum.
Now the question arises why does the government introduce such a scheme that has a little impact? The idea behind this scheme is to tackle rampant foeticide in the middle and upper middle class families. With this step it is also expected that this will promote the concept of smaller families.
It has been observed that more number of female foeticide cases are more prevalent in the affluent classes and these would not ask for free education for their girl child. But the main question remains who pays for the scheme rolled out by the government?
By law, private schools can increase the fees by a fixed percentage. That increment covers increase in costs and new investments but private schools are already doing their bit for the weaker section that they do not know from where to fetch more money to bridge the gap. They are of the opinion of helping the government but they need money to do these things.
Keeping in mind the problems faced by the private institutions, the government is already in dialogue with the Council of Indian School Certificate Examination and the state governments
