Fundraising is an important activity for any educational institution for further enhancement of their education curriculum. Even prestigious institutions like IITs & IIMs have collected funds for the betterment their education. On this regard recently the University Grant Commission has passed note to all the universities & colleges to raise fund on their own. But the countrys premier & international repute educational institution Jawaharlal Nehru University is exactly opposite to it.
The left-leaning Jawaharlal Nehru University is always clear about this stand. Two years ago the university students had opposed the opening of Nescafe outlets & kiosks of private telephone in campus. The university has always opposed the corporate fund, international sponsorship and outlets of MNCs in its campus. Every student talks about more funds for the university but when the question of fundraising comes, they say it is the responsibility of the state. Sumanta Kumar Swain a student from the School of International Studies of JNU said, the government should not allow FDI in education, because these people have imperialistic attitude with no social implications which is very harmful for Indian society. Now it is a big issue on the eve of election in the campus.
