Growing younger with time

Bapuji College of Engineering and Technology is known for its initiative in research and development in the area of environment, electronics and computers.

Bapuji College of Engineering and Technology in Davangere recently celebrated its silver jubilee. Established in 1979 in the month of September, the college has groomed and readied more than 6,900 engineers for the country.

Course content

The college offered only five or six courses when it started. Soon they included 12 more courses in engineering.

Interestingly, the college has been accredited twice by the National Board of Accreditation. This was apparently for the excellent quality of education, exemplary teaching and good infrastructure. The college is affiliated to the Visveswaraiah Technological University Belgaum.

The student intake is limited to 680 in the 12 under graduate disciplines of engineering and 174 in the five post graduate courses. The college boasts of an excellent faculty.

There are 23 Ph.d holders and a strong 121 post-graduates in their respective disciplines.

Infrastructure

There are more than 40 well equipped laboratories and six departments that have been recognised as Research Centres. Faculty of the various departments engage in research projects sponsored by AICTE and MHRD.

Several Research and development programmes are being carried out in various laboratories of the college, which have been receiving grants from All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).

The institution interacts with the industry on a regular basis. A number of research and development projects have been undertaken in the Textile, Environmental, Mechanical, Computer Engineering and Electrical Engineering fields.

It also has a centre for National Academic Network for continuing Education (CNANCE) by AICTE, New Delhi and the Distance Education centre (IGNOU) is housed in the Institute campus.

The Institute is identified as one of the Centres for satellite based distance education program by VTU in collaboration with Karnataka State Remote sensing applications Centre and government of Karnataka.

Future plans

As part of their silver jubilee project, the college has decided to construct an open air theatre costing Rs 25 lakhs and extend the Girls hostel at a cost of Rs two crores.
