Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) intends to develop National Repositories of Learning Contents and Research Materials for programmes on demand to suit the learners place, pace and time, announced Prof. H. P. Dikshit, Vice Chancellor in his message to students.
Prof. Dikshit stated that IGNOU has received immense support from conventional peers and encouragement from all our collaborators in our untiring efforts to reach out to the disadvantaged and challenged. These efforts require massive expansion and use of ICT capabilities. IGNOU had plans to harness Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) from the very beginning to enhance access with equality of opportunities to the deprived sections of our society, he stated. Very bold and innovative experiments on pilot basis have been conducted to use newer technologies.
Today, the University uses the latest state-of-the-art ICT for delivery of education through Gyan Darshan the network of educational TV Channels and Gyan Vani, a cooperative of 17 Radio stations. With the launch of an exclusive Satellite for education EDUSAT- by Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) we are creating a network of 125 Satellite Interactive Terminals all over the country with 10-12 teaching ends in different cities to pool expertise and best practices. Education should soon be available to all at the doorsteps of even those living in the remotest areas, he added.
