Chamber welcomes FSU president as keynote speaker
The Rockford Chamber of Commerce is honored to announce that David Eisler, President of Ferris State University, will be the keynote speaker for its upcoming annual meeting, scheduled for Friday, Jan. 9.
The chamber annual meeting of the membership will be at the Wolverine World Wide, Inc. conference center. The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a social hour followed by the Rockford High School Jazz Ensemble, dinner, election of board members, Antor Travel/Funjet vacation grand drawing and the business of distinction awards.
The Rockford Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors will announce the winners for the Rockford Chamber of Commerce 2008 Business of Distinction Awards at the meeting.

Eisler will bring vast experience to meeting
David L. Eisler has served as president of Ferris State University since July 2003. On campus Eisler has worked with faculty, staff and students to develop and articulate a vision that focuses Ferris State University as a Learning-Centered University. Under his leadership the University has embarked on an ambitious program of technology integration, classroom renovation, wireless networking, and cooperative programs with community colleges. These efforts have resulted in record enrollments for Ferris State University in Big Rapids and 25 locations throughout Michigan.
Within Michigan Eisler works actively on issues of higher education and economic development. He served on the Cherry Commission on Higher Education and Economic Growth. Governor Jennifer Granholm has appointed him to the Council of Labor and Economic Growth and the Midwestern Higher Education Compact, and he currently serves on the executive committee of both organizations. An advocate for the arts, he also serves on the Board of ArtServe Michigan.
Eisler has spoken widely and published papers on the integration of technology in higher education. As an academic leader, Eisler believes strongly in the value of excellence in undergraduate education. He is committed to ensuring the integrity of the college experience based upon an education that develops mature communication and quantitative skills, including a know-ledge core that has both breadth and depth, which creates a pattern of intellectual rigor and provides the foundation for lifelong learning.
Throughout his career, Eisler has been heavily involved in community service and he believes strongly that service is an important component of the educational experience. With the American Association of State College and Universities and the New York Times, he helped create the American Democracy Project. He currently serves on the Board of the ConnectMichigan Alliance, which brings together the efforts of the Michigan Nonprofit Association, Michigan Community Service Commission, Volunteer Centers of Michigan, and the Michigan Campus Compact.
Eisler earned both bachelor and doctoral degrees in Clarinet Performance at the University of Michigan and his master’s degree from Yale University. He and his wife Patsy, a native of South Haven, Mich., have two daughters, Heather, a Ph.D. student in Molecular Biology at the University of Notre Dame, and Lindsay, a medical resident in otorhinolaryngology.

IGNOU OPENMAT 2009 Open University School of Management
With the vision of providing higher education, IGNOU was set up in New Delhi in the year 1985 and now it is imparting education to approximately 2 million students. Indira Gandhi National Open University conducts ignou openmat two times every year for admission to various degree and diploma management programs. Indira Gandhi National Open University School of Management Studies provides admission to 21 MBA courses.
Important dates:
There is not much information about the dates available yet, however below is some information.
1. 15-07-2009 – last date for submission of completed application forms.
2. You can take the admission in the university upto January 2010.
3. You need to deposit your result card and your required documents latest by 30-11-2009
4. The application forms will be made available by November 2008 from the various study centres, regional centres, ignou army, air force, navy and Assam rifles centres by end of November.
Eligibility criteria:
1. The candidate must possess a bachelor’s degree in any of the fields.
2. Even if the candidate doesn’t have a degree, a candidate with a minimum of 6 years experience at managerial post is also eligible for the examination.
3. There is no age bar.

ICSI and Ignou will be signing a MOU to offer BCom and MCom in business policy and corporate governance
ICSI-IGNOU tie-up
THE Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) and Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) will be signing a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to offer BCom in corporate affairs and administration and MCom in business policy and corporate governance. These programmes will be conducted exclusively for students of the company secretaries course.
According to ICSI sources, students who passed 10 + 2 and have registered in the Company Secretaryship Foundation Programme would be eligible for the undergraduate programme. Graduates in any discipline or equivalent qualifications from a recognised University/ Institute and those who passed Company Secretaryship Executive Programme are eligible for the postgraduate programme. Medium of instruction would be both I English and Hindi.
N K Jain,CEO,ICSI said: The programme has been developed by Ignou in consultation with ICSI and participants would be certified by the open university on successful completion. He said that this customised UG and PG course would give an added advantage to company secretaries.
According to ICSI sources, a consolidated amount of Rs 4,000 shall be payable at the time of admission to this BCom programme. A student, once admitted, shall be admitted for a period of three years. Therefore, there would be no need to re-register for the second and third year.
The duration of the programme shall be a minimum of three years and a maximum of six years with a provision for re-admission after the completion of the maximum duration. According to Jain, IGNOU would certify students on successful completion of the programmes.
However, students who have already, passed Company Secretaryship Intermediate/Executive Programme can complete this BCom programme in a minimum period of one year and a maximum period of four years.
For the MCom programme a consolidated fee of Rs 5,000 would be charged. A student, once admitted, shall be admitted for the second year also. The student may simultaneously study MCom along with the Company Secretaryship Professional Programme.
MoC signed between IGNOU and MBC
Memorandum of Co-operation (MoC) was signed between K. Laxman, Registrar, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) and Bi-jaye Madhou, Director General, Mauritius Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) to establish Media Broadcast Channel for creating spheres of media awareness and offer Research and Development projects in media education. IGNOU and MBC will jointly develop and devise implementation strategies. and action plans to meet the desired objectives and goals. MoC was signed to empower people to participate effectively in the process of national development and promote education through educational media by way of broadcasting educational contents developed by IGNOU.

Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) inaugurated its regional regular study centre at the Institute of Public Health and Hygiene, Mahipalpur, New Delhi. The Centre was inaugurated by Chief Guest Professor V. N. Rajsekhran Pillai, Vice Chancellor, IGNOU. On the occasion, Dr.Pillai elaborated on the introduction of the Masters of Science degree in dietetics and food service management (MSC-DFSM) which has been initiated with a view to facilitate the needs of training work force/developing manpower (dietetics, nutrition counsellors, food service manager etc.) for the emerging, and rapidly growing employment sectors like hospital, community dietetics, food service management etc.

The proposed summit will over areas such as Management Education; IT and ITES: Distance Education; Agriculture; Medical and Pharmaceutical; Travel and Tourism; Fine Arts/ Performing Arts and Engineering and Technology The objective of the proposed summit is to take stock of the level of technology/upgradation in selected fields and measures which need to be undertaken to transform India into a world class destination for higher education with global quality, but at a much lower cost compared to developed countries. The strategy should be of selectivity, identify or select fields in which India is emerging as very strong and also countries for which India should be a natural destination. The demand for higher education is on the increase all over the world. So far, the student flows have been mostly one way: from developing countries like India to developed countries like the US and some European destinations. But, time is now approaching for a reverse flow. During the last five years, India has made remarkable progress as a centre/ destination for higher education particularly in the fields of engineering and technology, IT & ITES, management, medical/healthcare and distance education. India has over 250 universities and more than 18,000 colleges in the country, in addition to IGNOU, IITs, IIMs, RECs, and management schools.

A new Chair for Sustainable Development at Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) would undertake Action Education Programmes in five major eco-systems in India to build training material based on field studies. The five agro-economic regions are hill, arid, semiarid, coastal and irrigated areas. This was announced by V N. Rajasekharan Pillai, Vice-Chancellor, IGNOU and M. S. Swaminathan, President, Chair for Sustainable Development.

Come November and the School of Open Learning (SOL), Delhi University (DU), will launch its welcome gift for the new batch of students enrolling in the BA programme for 2007-08 - a 24-hour query helpline via e-mail and mobiles.
One guest faculty member will be appointed as counsellor and instructor for a group of 20 students, informs H C Pokhariyal, executive director, SOL. He adds, “The basic need for any education system is the availability of teachers who can devote time to students. Distance learning is coming up as an alternative to regular classes as there are many students who do not get admission to regular courses.”
The idea emerged from the SOLs interaction with the open universities in the UK. Admitting that distance learning in foreign countries has upgraded to a level where it can compete with the regular education system, Savita Dutta, director, SOL states, “We have invited experts from the UK to help us improve our distance education methodology.”

Indira Gandhi National Open University (Ignou) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI). The MoU is aimed at making a joint effort in promoting and implementing extension training and education programmes for the empowerment of the special target groups of people with disabilities. Ignou will collaborate with RCI in programme design and development of special education and rehabilitation programmes through distance mode and will also facilitate delivery and certification of such programmes. The two will also launch and implement BEd/MEd and PGPD in special education.

IGNOU extends deadline
Indira Gandhi National Open University has extended the deadline for submission of December 07 term end exam forms without late fee till October 15, announced Dr. Srikant Mohapatra, Registrar (Student Registration & Evaluation Division). Students submitting forms after October 16 will have to pay a penalty with the exam fee. Candidates whose results of June term end exam are awaited on the date of submission of the form need not pay examination fee for those courses. Students who do not receive hall-ticket a week before the exam may download it from the IGNOU website and report to the Examination Centre with their Identify Card issued by the university.

Under the aim of making every village a knowledge centre, the Indira Gandhi National Open University (Ignou) took a step forward by initiating a dialogue with non-governmental organisations (NGOs), to spread the benefit of education and knowledge to the grassroots. Recently, Ignou hosted a brainstorming session in the Capital, wherein experts from Ignou and Council of NGOs of Rural India (CNRI) participated to discuss a roadmap for the establishment of village knowledge centres across the county.
Over 34 NGOs from different parts of the country presented their views in the meet.
Basir Ahmad Khan, pro-vice chancellor, IGNOU said: This initiative is to draw a blueprint for the academia-NGO collaboration to reach out to the grassroots. We would be looking forward to both formal and informal collaboration and in the context of open and distance learning education system, the NGOs located in different parts of the country, which will be in a position to offer their local infrastructure facilities for the spread of education and knowledge.

An Encyclopedia of the Indian Freedom Movement including all revolts, rebellions, Satyagraha, movements, campaigns and agitations as also the role of revolutionaries, sacrifices of martyrs both in British India and the erstwhile Indian States beginning from the Battle of Plassey onwards shall be prepared by the new Indira Gandhi Centre for Freedom Struggle Studies at IGNOU Campus. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will be signed between IGNOU and Institute for Socialist Education to implement the various activities to be undertaken by this centre, announced Prof. V.N. Rajasekharan Pillai, VC, IGNOU.
