Sheriff office announces availability of scholarship
Caddo Parish Sheriff Steve Prator has announced the availability of a $500 college scholarship for a Caddo graduating high school senior.
The scholarship is available each year through the Louisiana Sheriffs Honorary Membership Program to help defray the costs associated with higher education, according to a release from sheriffs spokeswoman Cindy Chadwick. One scholarship is awarded in each parish where the sheriff participates in the Honorary Membership Program.
To qualify for a scholarship, the recipient must be a permanent resident of Louisiana, be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student, and agree to use the scholarship at a Louisiana institute of higher education. Applicants must be eligible for admission to the school indicated on their application.

A teachers scholarship
Surreys North Ridge Elementary School has established a Manjit Panghali Memorial Fund with the Surrey Foundation to provide an annual scholarship to a graduating student who attended North Ridge.
The fund was created in memory of teacher Manjit Panghali, who was murdered in October 2006. It was initiated by Carolyn Convey, a colleague who taught a Grade 1 class with Panghali at North Ridge Elementary.
Manjits family has been overwhelmed by the love and support we have received from the students, staff, and parents of North Ridge Elementary, said Jasmin Bhambra, Panghalis sister and family spokesperson.

Monmouth University Scholarship Ball An Evening In Old Shanghai Set For Saturday, April 28
Monmouth University celebrates the exotic beauty of An Evening in Old Shanghai, the 24th Annual Scholarship Ball, on Saturday, April 28 at 6:30 p.m. in Woodrow Wilson Hall; the magnificent 1920s American Beaux-Arts style mansion on the Universitys West Long Branch campus.
Ball chairwoman Barbara C. Rumsby, Oceanport, and her committee have dazzling plans for the gala, which is projected to raise $130,000 for student scholarships. The event will feature authentic Shanghai dÃ©cor including a suzhou tea garden and indoor koi pond. The successful candidates will benefit with a scholarship of Rs. 8,000 per year to cover their living and housing expenses. They will also be exempted from the course fee of Rs. 9,000. The Board of Trustees of the Visiting Nurse Association of Somerset Hills is accepting applications for its 2007 Nursing Scholarship.
Up to two qualified high-school seniors, from Somerset and/or Morris County, who are planning to pursue a baccalaureate degree in nursing, will each be awarded a $1,000 scholarship.

Rs 60 lakh earmarked for Sanskrit scholarship
STATE GOVERNMENT will distribute scholarship worth Rs 60 lakh among students of Indore division to promote their interest in Sanskrit.
An official spokesman said that the scholarship would be distributed among the students studying between Class 9 and Class 12.
Scholarship of Rs 31.24 lakh would be distributed in Indore district while Rs 12.15 lakh would be distributed in Dhar district. Scholarship of Rs 6.5 lakh would be distributed in Jhabua district and Rs 1.75 lakh would be distributed in Barwani district.

The Engineers Foundation of Ohio is offering more than $25,000 in academic scholarships to qualifying engineering students for the 2007-08 school year.
Each year, EFO offers the scholarships to engineering students in Ohio. Ten students received scholarships last year.
To qualify, applicants must be U.S. citizens, permanent residents of Ohio and graduating high school seniors admitted to an engineering program approved by the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology at an Ohio engineering college or the University of Notre Dame.

Alfred University student receives Coca-Cola First Generation Scholarship
Nicole Tates, a junior in the School of Art & Design at Alfred University, is one of 18 New York State residents to receive a Coca-Cola First Generation Scholarship this year.
Tates, a graduate of Grand Island Senior High School, is a daughter of Robert and Amy Tates of Grand Island.
Thanks to The Coca-Cola Foundation, students like Nicole at our member colleges and universities have the opportunity to be the first in their families to achieve a higher education, said Joseph Curtin, president of the Independent College Fund of New York (ICFNY). AACC unveils scholarship programs
County high school students have another way to finance college, thanks to 36 new scholarships being offered through Anne Arundel Community College.
On Monday, the first recipients of the colleges 24 Presidential Scholarships and 12 Kathy and Jerry Wood Foundation Scholarships assembled for a reception at the college.
All told, these freshmen will share more than $108,000 in scholarship funds and textbook stipends this year.

Student fundraising efforts at Pennsylvania College of Technology have resulted in a new scholarship award for a returning student leader.
At the colleges recent Student Awards Banquet, Carl F. Gravely, of Arona, who will enter his senior year in Penn Colleges building automation technology bachelor-degree major this fall, was announced as the recipient of the first award from the Student Leader Legacy Scholarship fund.
The $500 award is the result of fundraising efforts by the colleges Student Government Association over the past 10 months, including hosting a Donkey Basketball game during Homecoming in January. Proceeds from that game, along with other donations, resulted in a total of more than $1,700 to establish the first student-created scholarship fund building toward endowment at Penn College.

A school in Canada has set up a scholarship fund in memory of an Indo-Canadian female teacher who was murdered last year. The annual scholarship will be provided to graduating students.
North Ridge elementary school in which Manjit Panghali taught announced Thursday that it has established the Manjit Panghali Memorial Fund.
The charred body of 30-year-old Panghali was found beside a road in Delta, a Vancouver suburb, last October, days after she had disappeared. She had gone to a prenatal yoga class Oct 18, but never returned.

Student wins scholarship
A Malaspina International high school graduate wont be continuing her education at the university-college in Nanaimo next fall.
Thats because 16-year-old Fiona Wilson won a $2,000 entrance scholarship to Wilfred Laurier University in Waterloo, Ont., and an $18,000 Presidents Centennial scholarship.
The quarter system timetable used at the private high school enabled Wilson to finish her graduation requirements early with a grade point average of 3.93.

Tuesday was the day Whitney McDaniel had been aiming toward for the last five years. It was the day she signed a college golf scholarship.
McDaniel, a senior at Sulphur Springs High School, inked a binding letter of intent in front of her parents and coaches to play golf for East Central University in Ada, Okla.
McDaniel started taking golf seriously in middle school, and it paid off when she signed the scholarship offer.

Benjamin Gonin, a student at Green Mountain Valley School in Waitsfield, has won a $1,000 college scholarship for writing the best essay from Vermont in this years National Peace Essay Contest.
The United States Institute of Peace has sponsored the contest for 20 years. As this years Vermont winner, Gonin will join other state winners on an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C.. to participate in a week-long education program focusing on international conflict resolution, and compete for national scholarship awards up to $10,000.

Community concert to build scholarship fund
The Hemet Community Concert Association has started a scholarship fund for high school graduates.
The Hemet Community Concert Association Music Scholarship will be funded by proceeds from sales of tickets and artists CD as well as by donations.
Scholarships will be given to students intending to pursue music studies.
One of our goals is reaching out to younger audiences, and the scholarship will help us achieve this goal, said Ruth Morvay, scholarship fund chairwoman. We are delighted to be able to provide assistance to young musicians by furthering their education.
