Liverpool scholarships
Up to forty scholarships offering a 25% fee reduction are available for international students applying for full-time, non-clinical, undergraduate programmes or postgraduate taught Masters courses under the university of Liverpool * International scholarships. These scholarships will be awarded primarily on the basis of academic merit and will be tenable for the duration of the programme of study, subject to good academic progress.

Requirements: International applicants for full-time, non-clinical, undergraduate programmes or postgraduate taught masters courses of the university.

To apply: Scholarship application forms will be automatically forwarded to all eligible students who have been made an offer of a place at the University. Queries regarding the application procedure should be directed to the universitys international recruitment and relations office in the first instance.

Submission: There are two deadlines for this scholarship competition. Thirty awards will be offered in the first round whose deadline is May 4,2007 and a further ten awards will be offered in the second round whose deadline is July 6, 2007. Applicants applying for the first round will be automatically considered during round two.

ANN ARBOR, MICHIGAN/ AVFUEL INDUSTRY NEWS/ AVTRIP, the refueling incentive awards program for pilots, has chosen the latest recipient of its annual AVTRIP Scholarship. Daisy Gracia of Brownsville, a May 2007 graduate of The University of Texas-Pan American, was recently awarded a $5,000 Texas Medical Association Minority Scholarship. Gracia, who majored in biology and double minored in chemistry and Spanish, was one of eight students chosen to receive the scholarship from the Texas Medical Association (TMA).

Recipients were chosen based on their demonstrated community service, health care experience, and academic standings. While at UTPA, she participated in the UTPA Baylor Premedical Honors College Program and graduated Summa Cum Laude. She will attend Baylor College of Medicine this fall and hopes to become a pediatrician and serve uninsured children in South Texas.

Arkansas announced a new scholarship Wednesday in honor of former coach Ken Hatfield.

The endowed scholarship bearing Hatfields name was established by Patrick Cameron, a former deep snapper for the Razorbacks. Cameron walked on at Arkansas, then earned the last scholarship Hatfield gave out during his tenure there. Hatfield went 55-17-1 with the Razorbacks from 1984-89.

For me to do this is about honoring coach Hatfield and continuing the tradition of pride and heart in Razorbacks football, Cameron said. Coach Hatfield gave me a tremendous opportunity.

Indiana relents on college aid program

A state scholarship program that has helped thousands would be open to children whose parents are not U.S. citizens or legal residents, under a proposed legal settlement.

The ACLU of Indiana, which filed a class-action lawsuit last March, is trying to get the word out to high schools and colleges where young people might have decided to skip the 21st Century Scholars program because they were told their parents immigration status disqualified them.

The scholarship program, established in 1990 by then-Gov. Evan Bayh, helps students who are U.S. citizens and have graduated from an Indiana high school pay for four years of tuition in a public college or university.

Its intended to help low- to moderate-income families, reduce the number of high-school dropouts and increase the number of students going to college. The amount of the scholarship varies.

Fifth-graders at Gretna Elementary School are getting a little nudge toward college education.
Through a scholarship given by Tallahassee Community College in partnership with Gretna Presbyterian Church, fifth-graders at the school are eligible for scholarship that covers two-year tuition at TCC.

Weve been giving the scholarship for nine years, said Gretna Presbyterian minister Ruth Mashewske. Its given to fifth-graders who meet income criteria and who have some degree of evidence of being able to do college work.

Scholarship offered to children of military

Thiel College in Greenville will give full tuition for four years to the children of military personnel killed in action in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The total value of the scholarship is about $70,000, depending on changes in tuition. Thiel will offer two Fallen Hero Scholarships a year. Students must maintain a gradepoint average of 2.3 on a 4-point scale to keep the scholarship each year.

Room, board, fees and books will be the responsibility of the students. They must apply by March 1.

OSU ticket raffle to benefit hospice, scholarship fund

A fund-raiser is being held with 50 percent of the proceeds going to Hospice of Knox County and the other half going to the Knox County OSU Alumni Scholarship Fund. The public is invited to bid on a pair of Ohio State University/Michigan football tickets for the game on Nov. 18 by calling 392-9647. The highest bid will win the tickets, which are for seats 6 and 7, row 18, section 14B.

The winner can pick up the tickets on Friday at noon at Hospice of Knox County, 17700 Coshocton Road, Mount Vernon. Two checks will be required upon receipt of tickets — one for each of the organizations, which the winner could use if itemizing for tax purposes.

Hotel group funds scholarship

To encourage Baltimore high school students to pursue careers in the hospitality and tourism industry, the Hilton Hotels Corp. has created a $3 million college scholarship fund, making good on a pledge it made in 2005 after it was chosen to operate the city-owned convention center hotel.

The scholarship aid has been earmarked for students at the National Academy Foundation – in the Digital Harbor High School complex. They will be eligible for the scholarships beginning in the 2008-2009 school year. Hilton has pledged to make $200,000 available to the students annually over a 15-year period, city and Hilton officials said yesterday.

I hope this is a model for other corporations in other cities to follow, said William Holland, Hiltons vice president of human resources succession planning.

The loan scholarships are for higher studies abroad and in India for postgraduate, doctoral or diploma courses in any of the subjects science/engineering/medicine/business studies/arts and humanities/law/arehitecture/ecology/environment/photography/journalism/fitness/sports/other fields. If the student has taken admission in a foreign institution, the maximum period of the loan is two years. The maximum amount of loan scholarship will be Rs 1,00,000. The sum provided would be sufficient to enable a candidate to meet initial travel and term expenses. Thereafter, the candidate will be expected to raise funds from other sources, such as university scholarships, fellowships, teaching assistantships or campus jobs.

Requirements: Indian national, below 35 years of age, having a good academic record, should be able to establish genuine financial need. In the normal academic disciplines, one should be a graduate with a consistent academic record of distinction from an Indian university of recognised standing. Those in the final year of a degree course would also be eligible. In exceptional cases, loan scholarships may be given for undergraduate studies if the course, deemed otherwise appropriate to the endowments objective, is not available in India. Candidates should be able to communicate fluently in English. At the time of applying, they should have applied for admission to a university.

High school senior wins scholarship

A high school senior from Oregon won a $100,000 scholarship at one of the nations premier high school science competitions on Monday for his research in a new area of mathematics called string topology.

The research conducted by Dmitry Vaintrob, 18, a student at South Eugene High School in Eugene, Ore., could provide knowledge that mathematicians and physicists might apply to understand electricity, magnetism and gravity, judges at the Siemens Competition in Math, Science and Technology said.

His work is at the Ph.D. level, publishable and already attracting the attention of researchers, said competition judge Michael Hopkins, a professor of mathematics at Harvard.

Daniela Medrano has long dreamed of becoming an anthropologist. But growing up in a home with a single mom who works a factory job, she suspected shed have to put herself through community college and, maybe, if lucky, transfer to a nearby university.

Now, with the help of a national program that awards scholarships to student leaders, Medrano is headed to a private college on a four-year ride.

Im so excited just to be able to go to college, said Medrano, 18, who won a scholarship to Oberlin College in Ohio. I know this will make a better life for my family.

Scholarship program established

A college scholarship program has been established for Cincinnati Public Schools students in honor of William P. Sheehan, who retired from Knowledge Works Foundations board of directors in September.

The program will funded by a grant from Knowledge Works Foundation. It established in recognition of Sheehans contributions to the community, to Knowledge Works Foundation and to its predecessor organization, Student Loan Funding Corporation, which he joined in 1981.

Sheehan is a retired chairman of the Ohio State Employment Relations Board, a former executive secretary of the Cincinnati AFL-CIO Labor Council and president of the Cincinnati Hotel Employees Council, and former chair of The Ohio State University Labor, Education and Research Service. He has also served on the boards of other nonprofit groups, including the Cincinnati Civil Service Commission and Cincinnati chapter of the American Red Cross.

The Miss Poulsbo/Miss Kitsap Scholarship Organization is now accepting applications for its 2008 pageant. Both the new Miss Poulsbo and Miss Kitsap will receive a $5,000 scholarship in addition to other awards and gifts. All participants in the pageant will receive a minimum of $500 just for competing. The Miss Poulsbo Scholarship Organization and the Miss Kitsap Scholarship Program will each crown a representative on March 29, 2008, at the Bremerton High School Auditorium. The new Miss Poulsbo and Miss Kitsap will represent Poulsbo and other communities in Kitsap County. They will both compete for the title of Miss Washington in Tacoma in July.

The Miss Poulsbo Scholarship Pageant is open to young women ages 17 to 24 who live in the North Kitsap School District. They must be a high school graduate by June 2008. The Miss Kitsap Scholarship Pageant is open to young women ages 17 to 24, who live, work or attend school within the boundaries of Kitsap County, excluding the North Kitsap School District. They must be a high school graduate by June 2008.

Both sets of contestants will be judged in five categories: Talent, 35 percent; Private Interview, 25 percent; Evening Gown, 20 percent; Swimsuit, 15 percent; and On-Stage Interview, 5 percent. This years pageant will be hosted by the current Miss Poulsbo, Alex Duchemin, and the current Miss Kitsap, Megan Hornbuckle, and Miss Poulsbo 2001, Jeana Ostheller-Halversen. The theme for this years pageant is Hollywood Dream Girls.

Out-going Minister of Education, Mrs Obiageli Ezekwesili, has announced the merger of the Federal Scholarship Board (FSB) with the Education Trust Fund (ETF).

Speaking on the occasion, Ezekwesili said the merger would form an integrated Education Finance Agency of the ministry. She said the scholarship division of the ministry was charged with the responsibility of rewarding, promoting and encouraging academic excellence in the nations educational system, but failed to achieve the desired results.

Represented by the Minister of State for Education, Dr Adewunmi Abitoye, Ezekwesili said the board was also established to develop the human capital for the nations development. She pointed out that the services of the board were not felt or enjoyed by deserving Nigerians because the sector was bedevilled by inefficiency, lack of clarity in policy actualisation and stability in funding.

The Washburn County Home and Community Education (HCE) Association has announced it will award a $300 scholarship to a student who plans to attend a technical college or university.
Priority will be given to a child or a grandchild of a current Washburn County HCE member.
Applications are available at school guidance counselor offices and the University of Wisconsin-Extension Office located at 850 W. Beaverbrook Ave. in Spooner.

DCWD opens scholarship program for 2007-08

THE Davao City Water District scholarship program for school year 2007-08 is now open to applicants who wish to enroll at the University of Southeastern Philippines, Obrero and Mintal campuses. The program has two categories — non-tribal and tribal.

For non-tribal, would-be high school graduates this year are invited to apply for this program provided they will meet the following requirements set by the screening committee: 1) must be between 15-21 years old, male or female; 2) must be fresh high school graduate; 4) must have an average of at least 85% and who belong to the top 20% of their class; 5) must have a CSAT raw score of at least 570; 6) parents must have an annual income of not more than P80,000 (based on Income Tax Return); and 7) all applicants mush comply with USP qualifying requirements.

The scholarship program for non-tribal covers degree and non-degree courses at the University of Southeastern Philippines, Obrero Campus.

Bonnie Heineken used to throw strikes across the home plate at the Interior Girls Softball Association Fields.

The 2007 North Pole High School graduate used the same home plate on Wednesday night to sign an NCAA Division I National Letter of Intent with the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.

Its really exciting, Heineken said after signing the letter in a ceremony during a break from practice with the Alaska Northstars Under-18 team. At first, I didnt realize that signing a letter of intent was that big, but I guess it is.

Michigan Tech University student Alicia Thorsen was this close to not applying for the 2007 Google Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship.

I just kept thinking, This is a national scholarship; theres just too many people to compete against, she said.

Much to her benefit, though, Thorsen applied last year and was selected as a finalist before applying again this year and winning the $10,000 scholarship.
