Despite a heart condition, friends and family say Ethan Jenkins played basketball his entire life.

After hearing about his physical ailment he still continued on, still played basketball, still engaged and enjoyed his life, said Trisha Clement a high school friend and organizer of the Ethan Jenkins Memorial Scholarship Fund.

SUICIDES INCREASING
Four heads and scores of pupils in Japan have taken their own lives because of bullying and an exam scandal, in which schools were found to be ditching compul-, sory exams in order to cram for exams. Following this 40 schools have been placed on suicide watchand others are on high alert. The Japanese education ministry had apparently also received an anonymous mail threatening suicide if the bullying did i not stop.The resultant mass hysteria has witnessed an increase in child suicides.

GSIS approves scholarship program for SY

GSIS approves scholarship program for SY 2007-2008

The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) through its President and General Manager Winston Garcia has approved the GSIS Scholarship Program (GSP) for School Year 2007-2008, GSIS Area Manager Dauphine Estrada, Jr. based here reported Wednesday.

Estrada in his report disclosed that the recipients of the scholarship grant shall be determined through a computer assisted raffle. The candidate can be nominated by all GSIS active members in good standing such as with updated premium payments and does not belong to delinquent government agencies, among others.

The winner-grantee is required to submit the nomination form that are distributed to government agencies, together with the other required documents of the scholar-designee, Estrada said.

Numerous continuing education scholarships are available through the Lincoln County Foundation, which is currently accepting applications for a wide range of scholarship funds it manages through an all-volunteer board of directors that works for the for the betterment of the coastal community. Applications are available in the counseling offices at all Lincoln County School District high schools and must be returned by April 17.

Letherer Memorial Lincoln County Music Scholarship for a student intent on maintaining or improving his or her musical ability; a $500 Lincoln County Bar Association Scholarship for a student planning to attend law school; and a $200 Oregon School Employees Association Scholarship for a student planning to attend trade school or community college.

Most talented players were chosen of participants from 461 teams for the recent 7-day special cricket coaching camp

Twenty of the most talented players were chosen out of 9,220 participants from across 461 teams for the recent seven-day special cricket coaching camp. The camp was held in Mumbai, at MCA Ground, Kandivli from April 14-21. At the end of the camp, five Ratnas were identified and rewarded cash prizes of Rs 20,000 each for their performance. The camp was part of the Boost Cricket Cup, organised by Procam and Boost, and is a national under-17 Inter-school cricket tournament which runs under the aegis of respective State Cricket Associations which are directly affiliated to the BCCI.

5 are named winners in Umatilla’s first scholarship pageant

Thirty-three local students participated in the inaugural Miss Umatilla Scholarship Pageant on April 21 at Umatilla High School.

There were five age divisions for girls 4 to 18.

Linda Watts, director of the pageant, said, It was a joy to work with the girls and their parents. Everyone had a good attitude and the pageant was a great success. We look forward to making the pageant an annual event and are committed to stressing the importance of education for young ladies in Umatilla.

Student art show, scholarship program set

The Atlantic City International Airport will honor the memory of a young artist by hosting a student art show and scholarship program in the airport ArtPort gallery in April.

Dozens of high school and college student artists will compete for a $450 college-level scholarship and a $250 high school-level scholarship. The scholarships will be awarded by the JAN-AI Scholarship Fund, which was created to honor Jennifer Cakert, who grew up in Ventnor and died in June 2006 at age 26.

The students art will be displayed during the entire month of April in the gallery in the security screening area of the airport. Scholarships will be awarded during a public open house at the gallery from 5:30 to 7 p.m. April 10.
