SK Patil Loan Scholarships for the year 2007 are to be awarded for higher studies abroad in engineering, technology, medicine and similar professional courses by the trustees of Shri Brihad Bhartiya Samaj. Requirements: Indian nationals with first class degree of a recognised Indian university, graduating before end June 2007, with a consistently first class academic record from SSC exam; must have secured/applied for admission in reputable foreign universities for courses commencing September 2007 but not later than February 2008; not above 27 years at the time of application.

To apply: Apply on a plain paper to the Secretary, Shri Brihad Bharatiya Samaj, N K Mehta International House, Behind LIC Yogakshema, 178-Backbay Reclamation, Mumbai-400020 giving all details including percentage of marks and class obtained in all exams from SSC along with a 25 cm by 18 cm self-addressed envelope with Rs 10 stamps affixed to obtain prescribed form.

Submission: April 20,2007 for application for prescribed form and April 30, 2007 for completed prescribed form.

IT Conference
Delhi Public School, R K Puram recently organised a national conference on Information Technology for school principals, the agenda being: Schools in 2020: Redefining education through Information Technology bringing technology experts and school heads on a common platform wherein they could share ideas related to teaching and classroom practices and integrating IT in school education. One hundred and thirty participants representing sixty-five schools from all over the country attended the event. Shayama Chona, principal, DPS, R K Puram, emphasised that technology has the power to transform the traditional lecture-based classroom to a dynamic learning environment. Dinesh Singh, director, DU expressed his views on the evolution of technology and its diverse effects on mankind besides highlighting the need to make maximum use of the technological advancements to aid us in everyday life.

V N. Rajasekharan Pillai, Vice-Chancellor, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), was conferred the 5th Prof. M.V Pylee Award for the Distinguished Academician of India-2006 in Cochin recently. The award has been instituted from a corpus of Rs. 10 lakh donated by the professor, former Chancellor of Cochin University of Science and Technology, after whom the honour is named. Presented once in three years, the award carries a purse of Rs.2 lakh, a citation and a memento. It was given by Sree Shankracharya University of Sanskrit V-C K. S. Radhakrishnan.

Taking advantage of India’s expertise in information technology, 93 graduates and seven lecturers left here yesterday to train in one of the world’s top IT firms.

The first batch of trainees from Malaysia bound for the Infosys Global Education Centre in Mysore were in high spirits, saying the stint would open the doors of opportunity to them.

The graduates and lecturers will train for 16 weeks at the centre under the Infosys Campus Connect programme.

Campus Connect is a foundation programme initiated by Infosys in collaboration with the Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) and the Higher Education Ministry.

Ministry secretary-general Datuk Dr Zulkefli A. Hassan said the cost was shared between Infosys and MDeC.

Imagine Cup 2007 Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Technology (DAIICT), Ahmadabad, bagged the first prize of Rs.l lakh at the India leg of Imagine Cup 2007. Its team will now go on to compete at the worldwide finals in August 2007 at Seoul, Korea, where a total of US $170,000 (about Rs. 76 lakhs) is on offer for the top teams. The Imagine Cup India 2007's theme was 'Imagine a world where technology enables a better education for all'. Over 12,000 students from over 1,000 colleges across India took in the competition. Team Gras from Goa Institute of Technology (GIT) and team Aabha from Indian Institute of Information Technology (HIT), Allahabad, were judged first and second runners up, and awarded Rs. 75,000 and Rs. 50,000, respectively.

IIT-K award
The Nina Saxena Excellence in technology award instituted by IIT Kharagpur (IIT-K) last year was presented to Dr S. E S Khanuja, Director, Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants. His innovation comprises pioneering work in anti-malaria treatment through plant genotype development. Commemorating the spirit of its illustrious alumna Dr. Nina Saxena, the award is an attempt to encourage and promote technical innovation with a social development focus. The award had received 24 nominations from across countries. A 12-member jury of experts adjudged the nominations on the basis of innovativeness, applicability, and most importantly the potential of the application for social development with specific reference to backward areas in India.

IBM has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Institute of Technology and Management (ITM), Gurgaon, to use the institutions expertise in running its Accelerated Career Excellence (ACE) programme.

The ACE provides non-engineering IBM-India employees with a BSc degree with an opportunity to upgrade their skills with a four-year MS programme in software engineering developed in collaboration with the University of Mysore.

Aimed at grooming technical talent at the workplace, ACE will provide IBM employees in Delhi and Gurgaon with increased opportunities to be deployed on different technologies across business domains at different IBM locations.

Technical education at the LIMT

The focus at the Lingaya Institute of Management and Technology (LIMT) is on technical education and on the overall development of a student. New IT facility at JMI
The FTK-Centre for Information Technology at Jamia Millia Is lamia has a new IT facility. It comprises an Internet lab and a Web Management lab. Dr. Abdul Waheed Khan, Assistant Director General Communication and Information, UNESCO, Paris inaugurated the labs.

Two senior Purdue University officials are on a two week India visit to meet government, industry and university officials to explore research agreements in analytical instrumentation, climate change, energy, health care and pharmacy Purdue researcher R. Graham Cooks and Discovery Park administrator Pankaj Sharma will also discuss student internship and faculty exchange programmes. Planning and Architecture Common Entrance Test (PACET) is an examination conducted by Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) for admission to 4, 5 and 6 years courses in planning and architecture.

Eligibility criteria of JNTU PACET

1. The candidate should have Indian nationality.
2. The minimum age of the candidate is 16 years.
3. The candidate should also belong to Andhra Pradesh.
4. The candidate should have passed the class 12th examination from Andhra Pradesh or any other equivalent examination with a minimum of 50% marks.
5. The candidate must also have studied mathematics and English as main subjects upto class 12th level.

Proposed important dates for JNTU PACET

1. MAY – availability of application forms.
2. JUNE – deadline for submission of completed application forms.
3. JULY – date of examination.

Examination pattern and syllabus of JNTU PACET

For admission to architecture:
1. The examination is conducted in 2 parts.
2. The first test is drawing test and tests the drawing aptitude of the candidate. The duration of first paper is 2 hours.
3. The second test is Aesthetic Sensitivity Test and tests the perception, creativity, imagination of the candidate. The duration of this examination is 2 hour and is computer based.

Annual Exhibition
Amity School of Fine Arts and Amity School of Fashion Technology recently organised their fourth annual three-day art exhibition – Srijan. The exhibition was inaugurated by Lokesh Chandra, director, International Academy of Indian Culture, Ashok K Chauhan, founder president, Amity Universe, and Divya Chauhan, chairperson, Amity School of Fine Arts.
